Today we present a case of conservative surgery for knee osteoarthritis performed by Dr. Paolo Filippini (Perugia, Italy), which involved a tibial osteotomy combined with a heterologous bone wedge and the use of autologous stem cells.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old patient, who had already undergone extensor realignment for a patellar dislocation, continued to experience pain and functional limitations despite a cartilage transplant and two arthroscopies. The clinical picture showed a deficit in extension (10\u00b0), reduced flexion (80\u00b0), and involvement of the internal femoral-tibial compartment with varus.<\/p>\n

Given the patient’s age, further arthroscopic debridement combined with the use of autologous stem cells was performed. At the same time, an additional tibial osteotomy was performed. A cancellous wedge of equine origin (Osteoplant\u00ae Cancellous Wedge) was used to fill the osteotomy space, promoting bone regeneration.<\/p>\n
