An equine enzymatically deantigenated xenograft shows similar performance to autologous graft in maxillary sinus augmentation

The aim of the study was to compare different biomaterials in maxillary sinus augmentation. A total of 30 patients divided into 3 equal groups participated in this study. For group A patients receive sinus augmentation with autogenous bone, group B receive sinus augmentation with autogenous bone in combination with PRP and group C receive sinus augmentation with xenograft material. A core biopsy was taken at the time of implant placement at 6 months of healing period for histological and histomorphometric evaluation of bone quality. Histological results showed that almost all the particles of the different biomaterials were surrounded by bone. The healing pattern in maxillary sinus bone grafting did not differ greatly among a variety of grafting materials, the appropriate material could be chosen according to the preference of the surgeon.
