In the clinical case presented, the guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedure was performed using corticospongious bone granules with preserved collagen, with a particle size ranging from 0.25 to 1 mm (Osteoxenon Cancellous Cortical Granules, Bioteck SpA), in combination with a resorbable equine pericardial membrane (Heart Pericardium Membrane, Bioteck SpA). Both are equine-derived tissue substitutes that have undergone the Zymo-Teck process (Bioteck SpA), a proprietary low-temperature deantigenization process that selectively removes immunogenic components while preserving the collagen and native mineral component of the bone tissue.
The Heart membrane, derived from equine pericardium, is characterized by high mechanical strength, attributable to the preservation of the native tissue’s collagen fibers. It can be placed dry, which facilitates surgical procedures, and once in contact with blood, it hydrates rapidly, adhering to the surrounding tissues, promoting graft stabilization, and ensuring effective barrier function for a period of approximately 3–4 months.
