Micro-CT shows that equine enzymatically deantigenated xenograft displays similar osteoconductive properties of human bone

The ideal scaffold should have characteristics such as a high porosity, a large surface available for cellular adhesion, pores sufficiently large and their extensive interconnectivity to enable the penetration of newly formed vascular structures. From the obtained results, the bone most closely to substitute human one is that of equine origin tissue, it has sufficient porosity and adequate values of specific bone surface and trabecular separation that enable migration into the scaffold of newly formed bone tissue. The bone volume density and trabecular thickness values assure that the equine tissue shows mechanical properties comparable to those of human bone tissue.
