An equine enzymatically deantigenated bone graft to reconstruct a large tibial defect

The authors present a case of association of a chondroma with an aneurysmal cyst located in the tibia of a 28-year-old woman. The coexistence of the two lesions is particularly rare in the literature, and may pose differential diagnosis issues, which are discussed. The lesions were treated by courettage and bone graft. The extent of the two contiguous lesions was such as to take about one third of the volume of the entire tibia. Reconstruction of such a wide bone segment, difficult with autologous grafts, was obtained by grafting antigen-free bone of equine and porcine origin. This choice is discussed critically based on the outcome two years after the procedure.
