Enzymatically deantigenated equine bone graft and equine pericardium membrane for regeneration of periodontal defects.

Patients included in this retrospective study had: a single 1-, 2-, or 3-walled intraosseous defect; a probing depth (PPD) ≥5 mm after initial therapy; good oral hygiene (mean plaque index – PI ≤1); and were followed for ≥12 months. Depending on individual anatomy, defect access was achieved using the modified papilla preservation technique (MPPT) or the simplified papilla preservation procedure (SPPF). Defects were filled using an equine bone graft consisting of a 1:1 mixture of 0.25-1 mm cortico-spongious granules (Osteoxenon, Bioteck, Arcugnano, Italy) after hydration with sterile saline. A 25 x 25 x 0.2 mm pericardial membrane (Heart, Bioteck, Arcugnano, Italy) was shaped, hydrated and placed to protect the graft. The granule biomaterial associated with an equine pericardium membrane allowed safe and effective regenerative therapy of intraosseous defects caused by periodontitis.

PRODUCTS USED: Osteoxenon Mix Granules, Heart Pericardium Membrane.
