The trabecular bone analysis has become a key point to a better understanding of bone degeneration diseases such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, since there is a relation between the number, thickness and connectivity of trabeculae in the structure and presentation of visible fractures at the cortical bone nearby. To understand the mechanical properties of cancellous bone, it has developed three-dimensional models that allow the manipulation of their structures through computer programs. This project establishes a methodology based on the technique of histological sections in both equine and bovine samples, in order to obtain a digital model of trabecular bone of each, which can be used to simulate mechanical tests in finite element software and be reproduced by additive manufacturing. The samples were sanded every 0.5 millimeters to obtain layers, each layer was photographed and each resulting image was converted into an STL file to obtain a third-dimensional layer with its respective thickness, then these files were manipulated in CAD packages, forming cubes of trabecular bone This methodology is invasive and destructive, so it is limited to samples where the trabecular bone has to be removed, however, for mechanical or structural analysis it is fully applicable.
