The use of an equine enzymatically deantigenated xenograft to restore the bone volume around implants

In the present paper, the authors evaluate the clinical effectiveness of a new threaded conical expanders kit in bone splitting procedures. In 2008-2009, the authors used cone-shaped threaded expanders to insert 25 implants in 14 patients (5 males and 9 females; mean age 48.7 ± 9.74 years). Twelve submerged implants were placed in the upper jaw and 13 in the lower jaw. All were exposed after 4-5 months and prosthetically finalized within 1 month of exposure. Clinical and radiographic follow-up examinations were made 3 and 12 months after prosthetic finalization. None of the treated cases were associated with intra- or postoperative complications. All the implants were found to be osseointegrated at the time of exposure. Follow-up clinical examinations revealed that both the hard and soft tissues around the implants were in good condition.
