An in vivo study shows how Calcitos and deproteinized bovine bone have the same resorption kinetics.

The sheet summarizes the results of a study conducted on an animal model (Yucatan minipig) widely used in research concerning the biological behavior of materials following grafting. After creating bone defects in the dental arches of the test animals, the deproteinized bovine bone (Bio- Oss, Geistlich Biomaterials) and Calcitos, (Bioteck) were grafted in adjacent sites, then covered with pericardium membranes (Heart, Bioteck) and the flaps were closed as per standard surgical practice. Bone biopsies were collected from each grafting site after 30, 60, 90 days, which underwent histologic and histomorphometric analysis. As far as the parameters of the analysis are concerned, Calcitos appears to be equivalent to deproteinized bovine bone, consequently representing a valid alternative option.
