SECONDARY INTENTION HEALING OF AN OPEN EXTRACTION SOCKET

Use of an equine pericardium membrane to obtain secondary intention healing of the soft tissues in post-extraction sites.

The sheet summarizes the case of a patient who presented to the surgeon with a compromised molar (3.6) due to a vertical fracture. It was decided to extract the compromised tooth and to preserve, as far as possible, the bone volume with a bone graft and by placing a membrane in accordance with the principles of ridge preservation. No loss of alveolar volume, either vertical or horizontal, was noted either during the interim control or at the 24-month follow-up.
