The sheet describes the case of a 45-year- old female patient who wished to improve the aesthetic appearance of her frontal maxillary area. The patient had lost the upper right lateral incisor and had previously been rehabilitated with a four- tooth bridge supported by the remaining incisors. The patient was treated using the guided bone regeneration technique while a dental implant was inserted simultaneously in place of the missing tooth, in order to to insert a four-crown prosthesis supported by the implant and by the remaining incisors.
The procedure entails using a cortical bone membrane (Osteoplant Osteoxenon, Bioteck) and a cortical- cancellous bone substitute in granules (Bioteck).
Five years later the appearance of the prosthetic rehabilitation was satisfactory. X-ray imaging showed peri-implant levels had been preserved and there was no sign of bone resorption. As shown by the follow-up CT-scan, a new layer of cortical bone is now visible at the site where the membrane had been placed.
