TREATMENT OF MILLER CLASS I AND II GINGIVAL RECESSIONS WITH XENOGRAFT

Using an equine collagen matrix instead of connective tissue according to the coronal advanced flap technique.

The sheet summarizes the results of a retrospective study1 concerning 50 consecutive patients, 27 women and 23 men, aged between 29 and 64 (average: 44.2 years old) who were treated according to the CAF technique in combination, alternatively, with Xenomatrix or connective tissue harvested from the palate. At the one year follow- up none of the clinical parameters considered were significantly different between the two groups, not even considering class I and II recessions separately. Xenomatrix made it possible to obtain an average RC% equal to 94.2% ± 14.7% and complete root coverage in 84.6% of the recessions. The author concludes that the results obtained with Xenomatrix, for these classes of recessions, overlap those obtained by using harvested connective tissue.
