USE OF A NEW COLLAGEN HYDROGEL IN THE TREATMENT OF PERIODONTAL POCKETS: A CASE REPORT

A new collagen hydrogel in the treatment of periodontal and peri-implant pockets to be used in combination with mechanical instrumentation therapy.

This case report concerns the nonsurgical treatment of periodontal pockets in a 66-year-old patient with a family history of periodontal disease. The treatment involved the use of a new collagen hydrogel (H42®, Bioteck Spa, Arcugnano – Vicenza) following debridement and root smoothing of the involved elements using dedicated ultrasonic inserts and manual curettes. The treated patient presented at the first dental visit with severe mobility of elements 1.3, 1.4, 3.1, 3.2, 4.1 and 4.2 and a generalized inflammatory state. The initial pocket depth (PPD) of the elements was between 4 and 8 mm, positive bleeding (BoP) and suppuration, and edematous tissue hypertrophy. Therefore, non-surgical treatment of periodontal pockets was performed. Following mechanical debridement, elements 3.1-3.2- 4.1-4.2 were treated with collagen hydrogel.
