Assessment of the efficacy of the Bioteck production process in viral load inactivation on bone substitutes and membranes of heterologous origin.
The sheet describes the results of a study published in 2016 on the Journal of Virological Methods, which tested the efficacy of treatments with hydrogen peroxide and/or irradiation with accel- erated electrons in the inactivation and reduction of the viral load on the following biomaterials of equine origin: cortical bone and cancellous bone granules (Bio-Gen/Osteoplant, Bioteck), collagen membrane (Biocollagen, Bioteck) and pericardium membrane (Heart, Bioteck). The efficacy of treatments was always found to be greater at the minimum safety levels indicated by the FDA guidelines. The results of this study indicate that the Bioteck production process is effective in inactivating potential viral agents in biomaterials of animal origin, which may therefore be used with the safety arising from the absence of any kind of contaminating pathogens.
