The use of a next-generation bone paste for post-extraction socket preservation.

Recently, a bone paste containing granules of spongy and cortical bone of equine origin, rendered nonantigenic by enzymatic means, dispersed in a low-molecular-weight polymeric hydrogel enriched with vitamin C, has been introduced in the market. This type of bone paste can facilitate graft placement as it prevents dispersion of the granular component. It also offers the possibility of three-dimensional shaping of the graft and increases the ease with which it adheres to the bone walls of the recipient site, promoting colonization by cells and ultimately the entire bone regeneration process. This material has been the subject of a recent in vitro and animal model study, which showed interesting properties in terms of facilitating bone regeneration. Its clinical use is today only described in a few case reports. This bone paste has already been used by the author in several cases on which a retrospective collection of data is in progress, and it is also available in a lyophilized version that can further facilitate its use: the clinical case presented in this article describes its use, also documenting its histological outcome.
