The successful use of an equine enzymatic deantigenated bone associated with Platelet gel in Traumatology

The need to perform more or less extensive segment skeletal reconstruction, or having to perform osseointegration during prosthetic revisions, oncological surgery, reduction and osteosynthesis of complex fractures and treatments of pseudoarthrosis, is far from rare in orthopedics and traumatology. Although it is universally known that the best material remains autoplastic bone, it is not always possible to make use of it, due to the limits in quantity and morbidity connected to harvesting: for these reasons, on the one hand, bone and tissue banks have been developed, on the other hand, research aimed at processing and use of animal bone, and, finally, the production of synthetic bone derivatives. For over 6 years, Osteoplant (Bioteck srl) as been used at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Unit of Belluno, as an alternative to autologous and homologous osteointegration. This antigen-free bone of equine origin is available in a variety of shapes and sizes, in sterile package, which may be preserved at room temperature in the operating theater, hence immediately available. We virtually constantly associate this material to autologous platelet gel. We present here our case report, concerning 50 treated cases.
