Laser-assisted periodontal therapy associated with the use of a new collagenic hydrogel
Today we present a clinical case report by Dr. Marisa Roncati (Ferrara, Italy), published last January 2025 in the journal Dental Cadmos.
During a routine oral hygiene session, a 60-year-old patient with generalized periodontitis stage III grade B was examined. Periodontal pockets were identified at the level of 2.7 element, with a probing depth (PD) of 7 mm and clinical attachment loss (CAL) of 8 mm on the buccal aspect, and a PD of 6 mm with a CAL of 7 mm on the mesio-palatal aspect.
Following non-surgical, laser-assisted periodontal instrumentation, the pockets –kept dry throughout the procedure- were filled with hydrogel H42®.
Thanks to its formulation based on equine-derived collagen, resorbable polymers, and an ancillary amount of ascorbic acid with a visco-modulating properties, H42® collagen hydrogel allows uniform pocket filling. Its high adhesiveness promotes pocket sealing, preventing bacterial recolonization and supporting tissue healing.
At 3-month follow-up, a reduction in pocket depth from 7 mm to 3 mm was observed.
At 6-month follow-up, the periodontal probe revealed a PD and CAL of…
