We present today a clinical case by Dr. Luca Sbricoli (Padua, Italy) involving a 44-year-old patient with an unrecoverable element 46.
Preoperative CBCT reveled a sufficient amount of vertical bone but with a very thin vestibular cortical and high risk of resorption.
This clinical scenario was suitable for alveolar preservation treatment using the Modified Periosteal Inhibition technique.
After atraumatic root extraction, a 0.5-mm-thick flexible cortical sheet of equine origin (Osteoxenon® Flex Cortical Sheet, OSP-OX09) was inserted between the alveolar bone and periosteum.
The Flex Cortical Sheet acts as a barrier for up to 6 months, preventing the passage of pre-osteoclasts from the periosteum to the buccal cortical, thus inhibiting their differentiation into mature osteoclasts and subsequent horizontal resorption of the alveolar bone.
The use of the Flex Cortical Sheet for the modified periosteal inhibition technique significantly reduces the risk of complications, as it is completely remodeled into the patient’s bone and does not require removal.
At 10 days post-surgery, the socket was already completely closed with good soft tissue trophism.
Subsequent evaluation with CBCT performed at 4 months showed…
