Case report showing the excellent long-term volumetric maintenance of preserved collagen granules of equine origin

The authors had performed implant rehabilitation in 2011 following bilateral sinus lift. In Q1 quadrant they had used anorganic bovine bone graft while in Q2 equine collagen-preserved and enzymatically obtained bone. In both cases the antrostomies were covered with a collagen membrane of equine origin.

At 6 months after regenerative surgery, implant rehabilitation was performed and at the same time bone biopsies were taken for histological analysis. These showed more mature organization of collagen fibers in the sinus grafted with collagen-preserved equine bone than in the sinus grafted with anorganic bovine bone.

Eleven years later, the authors have the opportunity to perform a CBCT of both quadrants and then go on to compare the volumetric maintenance of the two previous sinus elevations. The data went to show how both grafts had maintained volume over time.

PRODUCTS USED: Osteoxenon Mix Granules, Biocollagen Membrane.
