Use of a Flex Cortical Sheet to prevent bone resorption

Today’s clinical case by Dr. Luca Sbricoli in Padua, involves a patient who presented with pain and mobility in element 14.

CBCT analysis confirmed vertical fracture of the element and a small amount of alveolar bone remaining. It was then decided to perform alveolar preservation surgery using the Modified Periosteal Inhibition technique.

After atraumatic extraction of the compromised tooth element, alveolar preservation was achieved by inserting a 0.5-mm-thick flexible cortical sheet (Osteoxenon® Flex Cortical Sheet, OSP-OX09) between the bone and periosteum.

Flex Cortical Sheets offer the advantage of defined and homogenous thicknesses, allowing for predictable clinical results.

In addition, the Flex Cortical Sheet acts as a barrier for up to 6 months by inhibiting bone resorption and, by integrating with the patient’s bone, increases thickness leading to an optimal aesthetic result.

CBCT at 4 months after surgery showed good maintenance of pre-extraction volumes, with adequate mineralization of the alveolus…
