A new approach to glenoid reconstruction: a bone block and cerclage
Today we present an article published in the journal ‘Arthroscopy Techniques’ describing an arthroscopic technique for anatomical glenoid reconstruction using a bone block and cerclage fixation.
The technique involves the use of a bone graft of equine origin (OMC-80, Osteoplant®) and fixation with two high-strength, metal-free sutures.
OMC-80 Osteoplant® is a cortico-cancellous bone graft obtained through Zymo-Teck® treatment, an enzymatic process that removes antigenic components from bone tissue while preserving its structure, mineral content, and native collagen. This allows for physiological remodeling of the graft and maintains its biomechanical properties. The OMC-80 format features holes for the passage of fixation devices and is specifically shaped and sized for use in glenoid reconstruction.
The arthroscopic approach with allograft and cerclage represents an innovative solution that reduces problems related to resorption of human grafts, the intrinsic morbidity of autologous tissue harvesting, and fixation complications resulting from the use of metal fixators.
