Today we propose you a recent paper published on Materials journal that describes the physicochemical and regenerative properties of the anorganic equine bone (Calcitos®) compared with the anorganic bovine bone. Both biomaterials are produced with a high-temperature process on heterologus tissues. In this paper, Calcitos® and the anorganic bovine bone were analysed by means of electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy. Their in vivo performances were evaluated by histological analysis. Interestingly, Calcitos® showed comparable features….
In this case series, the regenerative capabilities of 6 different biomaterials were compared in the context of sinus lift with a lateral approach. The biomaterials examined encompass 2 types of homologous bone, 2 types of synthetic bone, and 2 types of xenografts, including anorganic bovine bone and equine collagen-preserved OsteOXenon. The OsteOXenon bone graft is obtained using the Zymo-Teck process, which allows the bone collagen and mineral component to be preserved. This allows a total remodeling in physiological time. The histological analysis of OsteOXenon showed the absence of inflammatory cells, the presence of active osteoblasts and blood vessels promoting the osseointegration of the biomaterial. In addition, histomorphometric data from OsteOXenon showed an amount of newly formed bone and residual biomaterial that, compared with other biomaterials under investigation,...
Today we draw your attention to a clinical study of 76 patients with calcaneal fractures, treated with either equine bone graft (Osteoplant) or homologous bone graft using the ORIF technique. Osteoplant bone graft is obtained with the Zymo-Teck process, which allows to preserve the bone collagen and mineral component unaltered. This ensures its total remodeling with patient’s bone in physiological time. Clinical evaluation was performed using the American Foot and Ankle Society score up to a one-year follow-up after surgery. The fractures treated with Osteoplant have obtained clinical results comparable to those treated with homologous bone, showing that...
